Nestled in the
small farming community
of Nickelsville, Virginia, The Ole Nickelsville Hotel is near the majestic
hiking trails of the Jefferson National Forest. The hotel is just a few miles from the Blue-ways of the Holston and Clinch Rivers and picturesque Copper Creek is only minutes away. All of these streams offer pristine beauty, padding opportunties, and fine fishing for a variety of species. Biking along the many secondary roads of the area offers visitors a chance to experience the beauty and solitude of the Appalachian Mountains in a unique way. Or stop by the Punkin Patch for a farm adventure. The hotel also serves as a gateway to history. The hotel itself is a historical attraction – built around 1900 to serve travelers and salesmen visiting Nickelsville. The hotel also served as a rooming house where rural area school children who lived far from town could stay for 25 cents a week while attending the Nickelsville High School. Only
two miles
away is the historic Kilgore Fort House, built
in 1786 by Robin Kilgore. Or visitors
can head slightly further up the crooked path to the Bush
Mill,
“built in 1896 – the only operational
over throw water-powered grist mill in
the region.” The nearby Keith Memorial Park
features a War Memorial as well as picnicking, playground, and hiking
opportunities – and a large cabin suitable for gatherings of up to
200 people. More interested in finding the roots of your family tree? The Scott County Historical Society's website is the place to start. Nickelsville
is only
30 minutes from the fine dining and music of Kingsport, TN,
45
minutes from the renowned Carter Fold's music, and
a quiet hour from
Abingdon, Virginia, (and the Barter Theatre). Music-lovers can explore the nearby Crooked Road, Virginia's heritage music trail, while art-lovers will want to check out Round the Mountain, southwest Virginia's artisan network. Are you looking for excitement? The Ole Nickelsville Hotel is a short hour's drive from the Bristol Motor Speedway. |
